Arrieta's main attraction is undoubtedly La Garita beach, a wonderful bay of crystal clear water that stretches for half a mile (800 metres) along the east coast of the island. It's a quiet beach and very popular amongst surfers. Strolling through the old town, we find some buildings such as the church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen or the Arrieta is situated in the Haría municipality of Lanzarote, which in turn is part of the Canary Islands. The town's name comes from Arriete Preud'homme, who was the Mayor of Lanzarote. Popular among tourists, the town has a permanent population of around 900 residents though can accommodate around 2000 people in the height of summer. Arrieta is situated on the south-eastern coast of the island, approximately 30 kilometres to the north of Arrecife. The coast here is protected by the spurs that form the Peñas del Chache massif, which is the highest point of the island, reaching 671 metres. Arrieta is a small village in the north of Lanzarote, very close to the other popular village known as Punta Mujeres. It's a corner of the island where you can delight in walking through its narrow streets, discovering its food, staying in its welcoming apartments, and bathing in its excellent beaches.
