About Mark di Suvero: Born to Italian parents, Mark di Suvero (b. 1933, Shanghai) immigrated to the U.S. as a child. An internationally renowned artist and pioneer in the use of steel, di Suvero has created vibrant and dynamic works of sculpture and painting throughout his sixty-year career, fusing vitality and movement with complex construction. The exhibition features two monumental works, Evviva Amore (2001), and Ulalu (2001). These new structures continue di Suvero's lifelong investigation of the seemingly effortless drawing and balance Mark di Suvero: Painting and Sculpture (9 September-21 October 2023) brings together four recent sculptures and two historic works that provide context and continuity to di Suvero's diverse output and his contribution to the field of abstract expressionist sculpture over the past six decades.. Di Suvero's sinuous, monumental sculptures—the best-known works of his practice—comprise Di Suvero was born in 1933 in Shanghai, China to Italian parents. In 1941 his family emigrated from China to California, where di Suvero received his B.A. in Philosophy from the University of California, Berkeley. In 1957 di Suvero moved to New York, and in 1960 he had his first, widely praised exhibition at the Green Gallery. Berggruen Gallery is proud to present Mark di Suvero: Sculpture, an exhibition of work from 1975-2019 by American, internationally renowned sculptor, Mark di Suvero.
