The remains of the archaic temple of Apollo, Corinth (550-530 BCE). Originally, there were 6x15 Doric monolithic columns. Peripteral temple; in the Sanctuary of Apollo. Column shaft height: ca. 4 m; column base diameter: ca. 1.9 m. Plan: Doric peripteral temple, 6 x 15 columns. Double cella, one opening west, one opening east, with no door adjoining the 2 rooms. Each cella had 2 rows of columns and a pronaos which was distyle in antis. A total of 38 columns. Morgan (1994: 138-139) and Reichert-S ̈udbeck (2000: 199) made a case for the worship of multiple deities in the temple. The site from the ancient city of Corinth, which is now considered to belong to the Temple of Apollo, has a long history of being identified with different Greek divinities. Weinberg noted how, since the Renaissance, visitors to the site had wondered which god it had belonged to [1]. For example, in the 16th century Martin Kraus visited the A port city located at the narrow neck that joins the Peloponnese to mainland Greece, Ancient Corinth controlled important trade routes. Ancient Corinth was actually inhabited since the Neolithic period, from the 7th Millennium BCE onward.
