Delta Sigma Theta (ΔΣΘ), an international historically Black sorority, was founded on January 13, 1913, at Howard University.It has more than 1,000 collegiate and alumnae chapters located in the United States, Canada, England, Japan (Tokyo and Okinawa), Germany, the Virgin Islands, Liberia, Bermuda, Jamaica, The Bahamas, South Korea and Nigeria.. In the early days of the sorority, many Greek letters are used in mathematics, science, engineering, and other areas where mathematical notation is used as symbols for constants, special functions, and also conventionally for variables representing certain quantities.
