The Battle of the Oranges takes place in Ivrea, a tranquil town of about 23,000 people. It is located near the city of Turin, in the Piedmont region of northern Italy. Since 2018, "Ivrea, an industrial city of the 20th century" has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site brings together 27 buildings and architectural complexes. Its Orange Festival turns Ivrea into a raucous battleground with neighborhood teams competing for victory. The festival ' s origins are in the 12th century, and its current iteration is from the 19th — organizers say it ' s one of the oldest Carnival festivals in Italy.
