Absolutely beautiful hike. The first 13 miles along the river stretch on forever, but the rainforest makes for a sightly and unique setting. After the final Hoh River crossing, you climb up to Glacier Meadows which is the last decent camp site. From there you ascend about 1 mile up to the glacier overlook. The trail is generally flat for the first 13 miles then becomes steep to Glacier Meadows. River crossings : There is one crossing of a braid of the river near 8-mile and a few small stream crossings. Unique features : Temperate rain forest, opportunites to view wildlife, views of Mount Olympus and Blue Glacier from the end of the trail The Hoh River Trail to Blue Glacier is a great backpacking trip for beginners who have done a few shorter, and Glacier Meadows (16.6 mi). There are a also places where you can dispersed camp on the gravel bar of the Hoh River. Lewis Meadow and Glacier Meadows tend to be the most popular options! I stayed at Lewis Meadow the first night, Glacier View Loop Trail. Exit Glacier, Kenai Fjords National Park, Alaska and the Hoh River Trail is a prime example of the park's diversity. The trail winds 17.4 miles through temperate Itinerary: Day 1 Hoh Visitor Center to Lewis Meadows Camp, 10.5 miles, about 1500' gain. We will camp on the gravel bar along the river and most likely have an evening fire. Day 2 --A big day-- We will arise at the crack of dawn, pack-up, then continue up the valley to Elk Lake 4.4 miles, about 2000' gain.
