Gamsol mineral spirits (mine is made by Gamlin): Blending stumps in a variety of sizes: I perused the Lilypad's "doodles and illustrations" section and found many designs I liked for making cards. Here are the three kits I chose: First, I created a layout of the images in Photoshop and printed it on the card. Gamsol is a product people use to blend colored pencils. You can put Gamsol into a Tim Holtz Alcohol Ink Fillable Pen for ease of use and I LOVE it! Be sure to watch the video to learn more about these cards, including lots of tips and techniques. My first card shows colored pencils on a dark cardstock. What is Gamsol? For those of you who are unfamiliar with this product, it is an odorless mineral spirit or solvent. Similar products are Mona Lisa Odorless Paint Thinner and Zest-It Pencil Blend. I use Gamsol in 5 main ways in my artwork. To dissolve the pencil pigment. To blend colors. To drag small amounts of color to different areas of my work. Medium and solvent safety: Gamsol and Solvent-Free Fluid. All mineral spirits give off toxic fumes, but Gamblin Gamsol is the least volatile and is not absorbed through the skin like some others. So that's what I use as a solvent to thin paints and to clean brushes. Of course I could use water-soluble oil paints and eliminate solvents Use the most refined/lowest odour White Spirits, i.e. Gamsol (often identified as the best), Shellsol, Low Odour Solvent and Sansodor to thin oil paint, linseed oil and oil paint mediums that already contain petroleum distillates (e.g. Alkyd mediums such as Liquin and Galkyd ). Drying time aprroximately 6-8 hours. This kit includes a 2 fl. oz. bottle of Gamsol as well as 4 paper stumps of varying sizes, two sanding files, a double-walled jar and a sponge - everything you need to start crafting!
