MENSTRIE (County of Clackmannan.) By the Rev. Ian S. Cran Knox. Physical Features. The ecclesiastical parish of Menstrie lies at the western end of the civil parish of Alva of which it forms a part; prior to 1891 it was in the parish of Logie. This village, like the other towns of the Hillfoots, is situated at the base of the southern slopes of Menstrie Castle is a three-storey manor house in the town of Menstrie, Clackmannanshire, near Stirling, central Scotland. From the early 17th century, it was home to Sir William Alexander. The castle was restored in the 20th century, won a Civic Trust award, and now incorporates holiday accommodation, private flats, and a museum and cafe run by Tower Trail. Four impressive medieval towers (more per square mile than anywhere else in Scotland) and a manor house have survived at Alloa, Clackmannan, Dollar, Sauchie and Menstrie; and represent just a few of the great houses which once existed in Clackmannanshire. The tall tower houses (dating from the late 14th and 15th centuries) were Summer opening times: Daily 9.30 am - 5.30 pm. October: Daily 9.30 am - 4.30 pm. November to March: Saturday - Wednesday, 9.30 am - 4.30 pm. Closed Thursdays and Fridays.
