The ca. 1760 Dutch-American core of the Jacobus Vanderveer House is the only known extant building associated with the Pluckemin encampment of 1778-79, which is considered to be the first installation in America to train officers in engineering and artillery. The house, constructed by Jacobus Vanderveer probably during the 1770s, was standing during the nearby Pluckemin encampment (1778-1779). The Jacobus Vanderveer House and Museum, was the headquarters of General Henry Knox during the winter of 1778-79 and is the only surviving building associated with the Pluckemin Artillery Cantonment, America's first military academy. A National and New Jersey historic site, the Vanderveer House interprets 18th century Dutch-Colonial life Paye played under VanDerveer from 1992 to '95, winning a national title as a freshman guard in '92.
