The newest trails in the park, take a break from the crowds heading up to Kennesaw Mountain and relax on the Environmental Loop and 24 Gun Trails. While these trails lack views, they do have plenty of information signs along the way. Explore over 20 miles of trail in this historic Atlanta-area hotbed of hiking and trail running. Kennesaw Mountain is best known for the history it preserves; the peak's slopes and the surrounding area played host to a key battle in 1864, which led to the end of the Civil War. What's lesser known is that the 2,965-acre National Battlefield Closed for Park Shuttle use only. Every 30 minutes with the first run at 9:40 am and last run at 4:30 pm.
