The history of Russian Constructivism is profoundly indebted to the contributions by the artist and theorist Alexander Rodchenko (1891-1956). Especially prolific in the 1920s following the Russian Revolution, Rodchenko was deeply convicted in unifying aesthetics, politics and everyday life. He worked across media — creating advertisements with a bold formalist visual language, photographs The exhibition will be co-curated by Rodchenko's grandson, Alexander Lavrentiev, who is the leading specialist of his work. The exhibition will feature 58 silver-gelatin prints from two albums of the museum portfolio series, published in an edition limited to 35 copies in 1994- 1997, collected under the direction of Varvara Rodchenko, Alexander Lavrentiev and gallery owner Howard Schickler. Five constructivist artists (apart from Rodchenko, those were V. Stepanova, A. Exter, L. Popova and A. Vesnin) organized an exhibition in Moscow entitled "5 x 5 = 25".
