It is a birth control pill that contains two types of hormones, ethinyl estradiol and drospirenone, and when taken properly, prevents pregnancy. It works by stopping a woman's egg from fully developing each month. DROSPIRENONE; ETHINYL ESTRADIOL (dro SPY re nown; ETH in il es tra DYE ole) prevents ovulation and pregnancy. It may also be used to treat acne and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD). It belongs to a group of medications called oral contraceptives. It is a combination of the hormones estrogen and progestin. Yasmin (drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol) tablets are available in blister packs. Each blister pack contains 28 film-coated, round, bi-convex tablets in the following order: • 21 yellow tablets each containing 3 mg drospirenone (DRSP) and 0.03 mg ethinyl estradiol (EE) embossed with a "DO" in a regular hexagon on one side • Use a second form of contraception (eg, condom, spermicide, or diaphragm) for the first 7 days of your first cycle of pills. Take this medicine at the same time each day, after the evening meal or at bedtime. You may take this medicine with or without food. Do not skip or delay taking your pill by more than 24 hours.
