The Yuma Jaycees formed in 1945 and met in rented offices on Main Street until 1969 when they built their original clubhouse on Arizona Ave. The decision to sponsor an annual rodeo event was made soon after the club was formed. The first Silver Spur Rodeo was held at the Municipal Ball Park located at 16th Street and Third Avenue.
