The highlight, billed by Bonhams as one of the most desirable Abarths ever built, is the 1969 Abarth 1300 Sport Spider 'Quattro Fari' sports-racing prototype. All the cars are hugely appealing, though two others particularly stick out: an ultra-rare (and highly original) 1959 Zagato This Abarth 1300 Long Nose coupe was registered in Italy on 29 May 1963 to its first owner, Renato Arfè. Finished in Blue Azzurro with a black interior with a 1,288-cc Bialbero four-cylinder engine and four-speed Abarth racing gearbox, the car was taken immediately to race. A 1456-1459cc 4-cylinder engine derived from that of the Simca Abarth 1300 would later be used in Spider Tubolare sportsprototype chassis into the summer of 1962, while within Italian and European mountain-climbing Abarth Simca GT refers to a number of sports cars produced by Italian manufacturer Abarth between 1962 and 1965. The Abarth-Simca GT represent a range of cars designed by the Italian manufacturer Abarth following a cooperation agreement concluded with Simca in 1961. The Abarth-Simca GT range includes 3 distinct models: The Abarth Simca 1300s proved capable of running rings around the rival Alfa Romeo Giulietta during the 1962 season, and the 1600 with 138bhp at 7,800rpm and with Girling disc brakes all round was capable of 240km/h 149mph.
