Adelberto Muller, director de marketing de Supermercados Peruanos, indicó que Plaza Plaza Vea fue creado el 1 de octubre de 2001 gracias a un acuerdo entre Intercorp y el grupo Ahold, y finalmente en 2003 se convirtió en propiedad total de Intercorp.El primer logo fue las palabras "plaza" y "Vea" en un tipo de letra similar a Sari Extra-Bold Italic en rojo y amarillo (a veces en reversa) y en la parte superior de este último una estilizada bolsa de compras en rojo.
